They are young with a song on their lips and dreams in their heart. Four years ago, they came together to regale people with their music and then the band called Ozyris came into being. The band members, Himanshu Devgan (lead vocals/guitar), Romit Sharma (guitars/vocals) and Vishant Arora (bass guitar) are in Ahmedabad with their fresh tunes and all excited not only to rock the city, but also to use their music for a charity event organized by Times Foundation.
The Times Foundation is putting forward a rock concert of a Ozyris. Earnings from the ticket sale will provide municipal school kids with text-books.
“That’s what excited us the most”, says Romit adding, “We loved the idea of playing for a cause.” In a short journey of four years, they have already been ranked among the top four bands in India, after leading names like Euphoria and Parikrama. Ask them what brought them together as a band and Himanshu says, “I have passion for music since I was a kid, but then as a teenager, I felt a strong urge of recording something and letting people to enjoy the music.” Following his desire, Himanshu recorded some music and put a link on a popular social networking site where Romit found it out. Romit had already had a desire to form a band and asked Himanshu to contact him. And in no time, both ended up finding each-other in the same section of their college (which they hardly visited before that) and things started falling in place with the entry of Vishant, a school friend of Himanshu. The name ‘Ozyris’ came from the word ‘Osiris’, the Egyptian God of Afterlife. Explaining the reason for choosing this rather unusual name, Himanshu says, “No one knows what afterlife is. No one knows what is there after death. We say it’s music and we are a part of it.” The same passion defines their music too. “Following our hearts, is as simple as we can keep it”, says Vishant adding, “If your music is good and passionate, you are sure to find your place in industry.”Thanks to their music, the band is getting offers from the Hindi film industry and other recording companies. “We are busy enjoying the audiences’ response. Even the constant feedback from people on networking sites is very encouraging,” they assert. The band is loved the most for their cover versions, (a term for reprised or remixed Bollywood numbers). Also many of their original numbers are making it to the music charts. Ask them to share a piece of advice for all those who want to make music, they say, “Go for it. Follow your heart.” The Ozyris concert is part of ‘Ahmedabad Rocks for a Cause’ event organized by the Times Foundation, in association with the foundation’s NGO partner of the region, Yuva Unstoppable and United World School of Business, the main sponsors of the event. Passes for the concert are Rs 50. Each pass would sponsor three books for a municipality school student. The concert is taking place at the Rajpath Club tonight, 7 pm onwards.
